A Worked Example
Take a 32-year-old with a ₹1.4L monthly take-home, ₹6L in savings sitting idle in a bank account, and a vague goal of "retiring comfortably." A financial plan turns that into numbers: assuming 7% inflation and a target corpus of 25x annual expenses at 60, the retirement goal alone needs a monthly SIP of roughly ₹18,000-22,000 in equity funds, started now rather than at 40.
The ₹6L idle balance gets split — an emergency fund of 6 months' expenses (~₹3L) stays liquid in a sweep-in FD or liquid fund, and the rest is deployed toward an existing gap, such as inadequate term cover. We also map this against Section 80C (₹1.5L) and 80D (₹25,000-₹75,000 depending on parents' age) limits so the plan is tax-efficient by design, not as an afterthought in March.
